What is Stem Cell?

Stem cells are cells that have the potential to transform into all cell types in the body and have a high ability to regenerate and repair. Stem cells can both renew themselves and transform into different cell types under certain conditions. Due to these properties, stem cells play an important role in the treatment of many diseases and tissue repair.

Stem Cell Types

• Embryonic Stem Cells: These are stem cells found in the early developmental stages of the human embryo. They have the potential to transform into all cell types.
• Adult Stem Cells: These are stem cells found in differentiated tissues and can transform into certain cell types. They can be obtained from various sources such as bone marrow, adipose tissue, and muscle tissue.

• Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs): These are cells obtained by genetic reprogramming of adult cells and have similar properties to embryonic stem cells.

Scope of Stem Cell Treatment

• Stem Cell Transplantation (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation): It is used in the treatment of blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma. Hematopoietic stem cells obtained from bone marrow, peripheral blood or umbilical cord blood are transplanted.
